Description

This is a superb, scarce set of three original hand-colored aquatint engravings from the highly desirable series "Fores's Coaching Recollections". These prints capture the romance and excitement of the British mail coach era just before the railways took over.

Artist & Engraver Details:
The scenes are after paintings by the celebrated British equestrian artist Charles Cooper Henderson (1803-1877). The original plates in this series were primarily engraved by the accomplished printmaker John Harris (1791-1873) or Henry A. Papprill, and published in London by Messrs. Fores.

The Three Scenes Included:

• Left Print: "Waking Up" (Plate IV of the series). Depicts a lively inn yard scene as a coach prepares for an early departure.
• Middle Print: "Changing Horses" (Plate I of the series). Shows a team of fresh horses being rapidly hitched to the waiting coach.
• Right Print: "Pulling Up To Un-Skid" (Plate III of the series). Captures the coach slowing down on a steep hill as the skid-pan is removed from the wheel.
• Dimensions:  H:11in W:14in each

Condition:
The prints are presented in matching, period-appropriate black and gilt frames and appear to be in good antique condition, though typical age toning and minor imperfections are to be expected with items of this vintage. Detailed condition reports are available upon request.
