This Barbini Murano glass vase is signed on the bottom by Mr. Barbini who used the "Scavo" technique  (from the Italian word scavo, meaning "excavated") is a Murano glassmaking process developed in the mid-20th century to mimic the weathered, frosted, and earthy patina of ancient Roman glassware unearthed from archaeological digs. Artisans apply a specialized chemical and mineral powder mixture—primarily carbonates, nitrates, and silica—onto hot glass at roughly 800°C, causing the powders to fuse and create a textured, matte, and subtly opaque finish.
