Ancient Cypriot / Levantine Bronze Age Pottery Jug with Pinched Rim, ca. 1200–800 B.C.
A well-preserved Ancient Near Eastern pottery jug from the Bronze Age to Early Iron Age, likely originating from Cyprus or the Levant (Canaanite / Phoenician regions), dating approximately 1200–800 B.C.
The vessel features a rounded globular body, a sturdy strap handle, and a distinctive pinched or wavy mouth—a characteristic pouring design used throughout the Eastern Mediterranean during this transitional period. The coarse, sandy fabric and hand-smoothed surface indicate utilitarian domestic production, intended for the storage or pouring of wine, oil, water, or medicinal mixtures.
These jugs represent some of the earliest wheel-made pottery forms in the region, bridging Late Bronze Age traditions with early Iron Age ceramic technology. Examples of these forms appear in museum collections such as the Cyprus Museum, the Israel Museum, and the British Museum’s Bronze Age Levant collections.
The piece retains an appealing archaeological surface, with mineral accretions and earthen deposits attesting to its authenticity and age.
