Ancient Egyptian cast bronze figure of an ibis, the sacred bird associated with the god Thoth, deity of wisdom, writing, and knowledge in Egyptian mythology. The stylized figure is rendered with a curved beak and simplified body form, exhibiting a dark aged patina with areas of surface wear consistent with antiquity. The sculpture is mounted on a later wooden display base.
Accompanied by a vintage certificate of authenticity from M. A. Mansoor Antiquities, Shepherd’s Hotel, Cairo, identifying the object as an ibis figure associated with Thoth and attributing it to the 26th Dynasty, circa 600 B.C.
