Description:
This is an authentic 19th-century engraving titled Ruth et Booz (Ruth and Boaz), a significant work of French Orientalist art. The print was created by the renowned engraver Pierre Alexandre Tardieu (1756–1844), based on the original acclaimed painting by the celebrated French artist Louis Hersent (1777–1860).
The artwork depicts a poignant scene from the Old Testament's Book of Ruth (Book II, Paragraph XXII), where the widowed Ruth lies at the feet of the wealthy landowner Boaz in the threshing floor. This biblical narrative is a story of loyalty, divine providence, and love, eventually leading to their marriage.
The engraving is executed on applied China paper (Chine collé) and presented in a handsome, likely original, gilt wood frame.
