A striking pair of antique African hand-carved hardwood bookends, expertly sculpted to depict the busts of a traditional man and woman, likely originating from East or West Africa. Each bust features a highly detailed, textured chevron pattern representing an elaborate tribal hairstyle or headdress, alongside serene facial features with heavy lidded eyes and slender noses. The figures are carved seamlessly from a single block of dark, dense hardwood, each integrated into a flat-backed, L-shaped support framework.
