Description
This lot features a framed antique or vintage Chinese print, likely an offset lithograph or chromolithograph, depicting a vibrant historical scene of men on horseback engaged in a polo match, known as jiju in ancient China. The artwork is a reproduction in the style of, or directly after, a famous 15th-century watercolor on silk painting by the artist Li Lin.
The piece captures dynamic movement with several riders galloping on horses, using sticks to strike a ball. This style of imagery is consistent with murals found in Tang Dynasty tombs, where polo was a popular court sport and military training exercise. The art is presented in a simple wooden frame and appears to be mounted on paper or a similar substrate, possibly laid down on silk borders (not examined out of the frame).
Condition:
The piece appears to be in good overall condition for its age, showing visible discoloration and toning consistent with vintage prints (please refer to images for full condition). The frame shows minor signs of storage wear to edges and corners. Not examined outside of the glazed frame.
