Description: Large framed textile featuring imperial five-clawed dragons surrounded by clouds and waves, in the traditional style associated with the Forbidden City. The design mirrors motifs found on Qing-dynasty court robes and palace hangings. Comes from the private collection of a retired watchdog reporter and one of the first westerners allowed into this region of China after the 1911 revolution, taken from the forbidden city circa 1915.
