This dignified terracotta tomb figure (mingqi) depicts a standing attendant in a traditional pose of subservience and respect. Standing 12 inches tall, the figure is rendered with the understated elegance characteristic of Han Dynasty funerary art. The hands are clasped together at the waist or tucked within the voluminous sleeves of a long, flowing court robe (shenyi), a gesture signifying loyalty and readiness to serve. The serene facial features and simple, upright posture reflect the social hierarchy and courtly etiquette of early Imperial China. The grey earthenware body shows a natural aged patina with traces of white slip and earthy encrustations from centuries of interment. As a representative of the "spirit world" retinue, this piece offers a quiet but powerful glimpse into the domestic and ceremonial life of the Han elite.

Condition Report

The figure is in good antique condition, exhibiting characteristic wear for excavated terracotta. Significant professional restoration is noted at the base, where the figure has been reattached to its plinth—a standard preservation measure for authentic ancient ceramics. The surface retains a naturally weathered appearance with visible mineral deposits and light encrustations. Minor nicks and surface abrasions are present on the head and extremities. There are faint remnants of original white slip in the recessed areas of the drapery. The piece has not been subjected to UV light or thermoluminescence testing.
