Description:
This large porcelain dish, or charger, features a classic blue and white underglaze design inspired by the Chinese "Kraak" style of the Ming dynasty. D:12in

The plate is divided into several distinct visual sections:

  • Central Medallion: A circular core featuring stylized geometric patterns, often representing symbols of longevity or good fortune.
  • Segmented Border (Panels): Eight radiating panels that alternate between traditional floral motifs (such as bamboo or cherry blossoms) and calligraphy/symbols. These characters often represent auspicious wishes for long life, happiness, or prosperity.
  • Decorative Grounds: The panels are separated by intricate lattice or diaper patterns, typical of Japanese Arita ware from the 17th through 19th centuries.
  • Rim: The outer edge appears to have a brown-dressed (iron-washed) or "fritted" rim, which is a common feature in antique export porcelain.

Key Characteristics:

  • Material: Underglaze blue porcelain.
  • Region of Origin: Likely Arita, Japan (Edo period style).
