This compelling mixed media work on paper features a central, visceral "Head" motif, a hallmark of the artist's exploration of identity, anatomy, and the human condition. The composition is layered with high-contrast pigments and aggressive mark-making, characteristic of the neo-expressionist movement. It incorporates several iconic ciphers, including the three-pointed crown—symbolizing the elevation of the subject to a royal status—and the "SAMO©" moniker, referencing the artist’s roots in the New York City street art scene.
The reverse of the work features a secondary illustration of a dinosaur with a crown, a motif made famous by the 1984 painting Pez Dispenser. The piece is presented in a heavily textured, dark-stained wood frame with a wide white linen-textured mat, highlighting the raw energy of the application.
Note on Attribution: This work is offered as "Attributed to Jean-Michel Basquiat." Potential bidders should note that the official Basquiat Authentication Committee disbanded in 2012 and has not reviewed this piece. It is being sold "as is," without a formal certificate of authenticity or established provenance.
