This striking, elegant figurative graphic work is by the master Israeli impressionist Itzchak Tarkay. Set against an outdoor urban backdrop featuring a Parisian-style streetscape and a shopfront clearly inscribed with the name "Daniella," the composition centers on two stylized women sharing an intimate afternoon tea. The woman on the left is cast in profile, wearing an intricately patterned yellow blouse and a cascading, floral-motif shawl over a deep crimson skirt. Her companion, looking down contemplatively with her face resting against her hand, is adorned in a dramatic wide-brimmed red hat with an orange band and a dark navy slip dress.
The table in the foreground features a warm violet surface accented with a decorative, multi-colored floral and paisley runner along the bottom edge, holding a yellow-and-white teapot alongside two green teacups. Tarkay's classic use of fluid, confident black calligraphic outlines combined with rich, saturated fields of color perfectly exemplifies his celebrated contribution to the neo-fauvist movement. The print is hand-signed by the artist in graphite along the lower right margin and hand-numbered 24/95 in the lower left corner.
