This is a stunning vintage six-panel miniature table screen featuring a double-sided decorative design. One side is intricately inlaid with mother of pearl (nacre), depicting various scenes of traditional Chinese life, including figures playing a board game (Go), musicians playing the flute and pipa, and scholars in a serene landscape. The iridescent shell work provides a beautiful contrast against the deep black lacquer, with fine etched details defining the characters' robes and expressions.
The reverse side features a hand-painted scene of vibrant goldfish swimming among aquatic plants. The goldfish are rendered in a warm cinnabar-orange hue, symbolizing prosperity and good fortune. This delicate folding screen stands on small integrated feet and is connected by brass-toned hinges, allowing it to be displayed in a curved or zigzag fashion.
