Vintage calvary saber. Chicopee's connection to the American Civil War includes the presence of the USS Chicopee, a Union Navy steamer that served to blockade Confederate ports, and the birth of Lt. General Arthur MacArthur, a prominent military figure who fought for the Union. The town itself was not a battlefield but contributed to the Union war effort through its prominent citizens and naval vessels.
