Description

Created in 2006, "Danza" is a sophisticated example of the technical and aesthetic mastery of Victoria Carrasco, one of Ecuador’s most distinguished practitioners of fire-based arts. Carrasco is celebrated for her ability to transform rigid copper sheets into fluid, luminous compositions through the complex process of "Esmalte en Cobre." This technique involves the application of vitreous enamels that are fused to the metal in high-temperature kilns, creating a surface that is both physically durable and visually radiant.

In this work, the title "Danza" is expressed through the interplay of light and rhythmic color. Carrasco’s style often bridges the gap between material experimentation and lyrical abstraction, utilizing the natural reflective properties of the copper to give the piece an internal glow. Measuring 0.60 x 0.75 meters, this is a significant work of substantial scale for the medium. Her pieces are held in prestigious collections such as the Imago Mundi collection and are representative of the mid-to-late 20th-century resurgence of fine metalcraft in the Andean region.
