This lot features a complementary pair of framed prints from the celebrated La Tauromaquia series by the Spanish master Francisco de Goya y Lucientes. Originally published in 1816, this series is one of Goya's most significant graphic achievements, illustrating the history and evolution of bullfighting in Spain through powerful, high-contrast imagery. The works showcase Goya's innovative use of etching and aquatint to create dramatic tonal effects and a sense of raw energy within the bullring. One plate depicts a tense encounter between a charging bull and a focused matador, while the other illustrates a dynamic group maneuver, both characteristic of Goya's "eyewitness" reporting style. These prints are housed in matching vintage frames that provide a classic gallery presentation, making them a sophisticated acquisition for collectors of European Old Master prints or enthusiasts of traditional Spanish culture.

Condition Report

The prints appear to be in good vintage condition with even toning across the paper surfaces consistent with age. There is some minor foxing and light mat-burn visible along the edges of the primary image fields. The frames are structurally sound but show typical signs of age, including light surface scuffs and minor oxidation to the gilt or metallic finishes. The glass is clear and the mounting appears secure. These works have not been examined outside of their frames and are sold as-is for decorative or collection purposes.
