This lot features a framed, handwritten letter on "Mrs. Norman Rockwell, Arlington, Vermont" personal letterhead. Though written on his wife’s stationery, the letter is penned and signed by Norman Rockwell. Addressed to a "Mrs. Fitzgerald," the correspondence serves as a charming school excuse for his son, Tommy. The text reads: "Will you please excuse Tommy's absence yesterday? Perhaps I should not have kept him out as I did, but I thought one day would not make much difference as his marks were good." The letter is signed "Mary Rockwell" in a hand consistent with Norman Rockwell’s personal correspondence and includes a small, whimsical line drawing of a boy with a fishing pole and a dog in the upper left corner.

This piece originates from the former Norman Rockwell Museum of the South collection.

Specifications:

  • Dimensions: 13 x 11 inches (frame)

  • Medium: Handwritten ink on paper
