Impressive Japanese Meiji period Satsuma ware covered vase, finely decorated with detailed hand painted scenes of warriors and scholars in traditional attire across a bulbous earthenware body. The surface is richly embellished with intricate figural compositions and gilt accents characteristic of Meiji era craftsmanship. The vessel stands on three sculpted feet and features gourd shaped side handles. The domed cover is surmounted by a Foo Dog Shishi finial, completing the elegant and sculptural form. A striking late 19th to early 20th century example of Japanese export ware, highly decorative and collectible.
