This striking 1937 color lithograph is a seminal work by Jean-Gabriel Domergue (1889–1962), a celebrated French painter often credited as the inventor of the "pin-up". Titled L'Été à Monte-Carlo, the poster was commissioned to promote the glamour and luxury of the French Riviera, specifically inviting travelers to see "the most beautiful women in the world". The composition features two alluring women in stylized swimwear, rendered with the elongated necks and delicate features that became Domergue's signature aesthetic. This piece is an iconic example of Art Deco advertising, capturing the sophisticated, high-society spirit of the Côte d'Azur during the late 1930s. Domergue, who lived and worked in Monte Carlo, utilized vibrant colors and bold, graphic lines to create an image that remains a timeless symbol of Riviera elegance.

Condition Report

The poster is an authenticated original vintage lithograph in very good to excellent condition. It has been professionally conservation-mounted onto acid-free archival linen to ensure long-term stability and preservation. The colors remain remarkably vibrant, and the registration of the lithographic layers is sharp throughout. Minor imperfections, such as faint handling creases or light age-related toning at the edges, may be present but do not detract from the central image. There are no significant tears, stains, or evidence of previous heavy restoration.
