An evocative Grand Tour-era oil painting on canvas, this work is a beautifully executed 19th-century or early 20th-century Italian School copy after Michelangelo Buonarroti's iconic Delphic Sibyl from the Sistine Chapel ceiling in the Vatican. The painting captures a detailed close-up portrait of the Sibyl's face, showcasing her wide, expressive eyes turned to the side in a moment of prophetic revelation, framed by her classic draped headscarf and robes. Executed with a rich, muted palette of ochres, deep greens, and soft flesh tones, the artist skillfully replicates the sculptural depth, classical drapery, and intense emotional presence of the High Renaissance original.

The canvas is stretched on an old wooden stretcher and housed in a simple, classically styled antique wooden frame. The reverse of the canvas retains an authentic vintage Italian exporter or souvenir label with a decorative border, typed with the identification details: "ART / Michelangelo / LA SIBILLA / VATICANO / MADE IN ITALY."
