This large-scale horizontal textile panel features an intricate sequence of traditional Chinese auspicious motifs from the late Qing Dynasty. The central narrative depicts celestial figures navigating a landscape of rocky outcrops, pine trees, and flowering shrubs. Two prominent mythical creatures—a Qilin and a dragon—frame the central scene. The dragon is rendered with metallic gold-tone couched threads, a hallmark of high-end ceremonial textiles from this period.

The border is heavily decorated with vignettes of flora and fauna, including birds and butterflies, set against a dark ground that provides a sharp contrast to the light-tan main field. The complexity of the needlework utilizes various techniques such as satin stitch and Peking knot to create texture and depth throughout the composition.

Details: Height: 25 in Length: 63 in Depth: 2 in (framed) Medium: Silk embroidery with metallic couching on a silk ground. Period: Late 19th Century, Qing Dynasty. Motifs: Five-clawed dragon, Qilin, celestial figures, pine trees, and stylized clouds.
