A substantial Renaissance Revival library table, likely dating to the late 19th century, crafted in richly finished walnut and displaying elaborate architectural and figural carving. The rectangular molded top rises above a deeply carved arcade-form frieze. Monumental trestle supports incorporate dramatic winged lion or griffin figures with carved heads, feathered bodies, scrolling ornament, and oversized paw feet. The supports are joined by a broad lower stretcher decorated with overlapping scale carving and a pair of turned, lobed baluster supports. Large volutes, rosettes, foliate carving, and classical architectural details further embellish the base.

The elaborate griffin/lion supports, paw feet, carved friezes, and heavy walnut construction are characteristic of Renaissance Revival furniture produced during the latter 19th century. Comparable examples are cataloged by Christie’s and other auction houses as Italian or European Renaissance Revival tables of the 19th century.
