Description
A striking example of French Art Deco ceramic design, this octagonal vase was produced by the renowned Faïenceries et Émaux de Longwy. The piece is executed in the factory's signature cloisonné style, featuring a vibrant red, hand-painted, raised enamel motif that resembles stylized fruit, flowers, or foliage, all outlined in black on a pale, off-white ground.
The distinctive, fine network of cracks across the surface is a deliberate decorative effect known as craquelure glaze, a highly popular technique during the Art Deco period. This vase exemplifies the bold lines and rich colors for which Longwy became famous in the early 20th century.
