This traditional Mandinka (or Mandingo) sword features a single-edged, slightly curved blade of the type often associated with the Sahel region and West African Islamic cultures. The hilt is meticulously wrapped in red and black leather, leading to a prominent, stacked circular leather pommel, a hallmark of Mandinka craftsmanship. Its accompanying scabbard is constructed of hand-tooled leather, featuring a large circular terminal and intricate geometric patterns. Attached to the scabbard is a heavy, plaited leather carrying strap with decorative sliding bosses and tassels, designed to be worn over the shoulder as a status-signifying dress sword.
