Description

A vintage color lithographic poster by the celebrated Russian-French Modernist artist Marc Chagall (1887-1985), titled Moses, also known as Moses and the Tablets or Moïse.

This is an original exhibition poster, printed in France in 1960 by the renowned master printer Fernand Mourlot of Paris. The work was published by the Editions of the Museum of Beaux-Arts, Reims, for the exhibition "Vitraux pour la Cathédrale de Metz" (Stained Glass for the Metz Cathedral), held from June through August of that year.

The image depicts the biblical figure of Moses, identifiable by the "horns" of light often used in Chagall's style, holding the Tablets of the Covenant against a vibrant blue background, a recurring motif in his art. Chagall frequently returned to religious subjects, infusing them with a commanding sense of the epic.
