This lot consists of two silvered bronze figural sculptures by Émile Guillemin (France, 1841–1907), a respected 19th-century French sculptor known for his expressive genre figures and finely observed realism. Each sculpture depicts a male figure engaged in dynamic movement, both armed with swords, suggesting themes of defense, conflict, or historical narrative.

Though related in subject and scale, the figures are distinct compositions, each rendered with individualized posture and gesture. One figure is shown advancing with raised arm and sword, while the other adopts a more guarded stance, gripping his weapon as if preparing for action. The pairing creates visual contrast while maintaining thematic cohesion.

Both sculptures display strong anatomical modeling, finely textured garments, and expressive detailing typical of Guillemin’s work. The silvered bronze finish enhances surface highlights and depth, accentuating the sculptural forms. Each figure is mounted on its own stepped circular base, consistent with late 19th-century French bronze production.

Émile Guillemin was a regular exhibitor at the Paris Salon, and his works are held in numerous European collections. His sculptures frequently portray animated historical and genre subjects imbued with narrative tension and vitality.

This matched pair represents a desirable example of French silvered bronze sculpture by a listed academic sculptor.
