This original watercolor on paper is a striking example of Mid-Century Modernism by the noted American artist Abraham P. Hankins. The composition features four spirited, biomorphic forms rendered in a sophisticated palette of mossy greens and deep umbers, punctuated by rhythmic accents of crimson and black. Set against an atmospheric wash of pale teal and white, the work showcases the gestural brushwork and organic movement characteristic of Hankins' most celebrated abstract period.

As a distinguished instructor at both the Barnes Foundation and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA), Hankins was a pivotal figure in the 20th-century American art scene. His work is represented in major institutional collections, including the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the National Gallery of Art, and the Smithsonian American Art Museum.

Provenance: This piece was acquired from the New York City art market in the 1980s and has been held in a private collection for over forty years.
