Details

This lot features two large-format framed literary illustrations by Norman Rockwell, showcasing his early narrative work for prominent youth and family periodicals.

  • Left: "Painted Yellow: In Which a Boy and a Dog Come to Understand Each Other" by Irving Crump, originally illustrated by Norman Rockwell for The American Boy in August 1917. The display includes the full story layout with Rockwell’s character studies and a dramatic action scene of a boy and his dog in a smoke-filled room.

  • Right: "Coach Quigley's Code" by Kenneth Gilbert, originally illustrated for The Youth's Companion on March 22, 1917. This piece features Rockwell’s classic sports-themed illustrations, including a baseball batter and catcher, and a dynamic scene of a player sliding into base. Both items originate from the Norman Rockwell Museum of the South.
