This vintage pair of architectural or decorative sculptures features traditional Chinese guardian lions, commonly referred to as Foo Dogs (or Shi). Hand-carved from solid, dense blocks of wood, each figure is depicted in a classic seated posture atop an integrated rectangular plinth. The carvings showcase characteristic stylized features, including coiled manes, wide-set eyes, snarling open mouths, and muscular chests adorned with decorative bells or tassels.

The sculptures are mirrored as a traditional pair, with one representing the female holding a cub under her paw, and the other representing the male resting his paw upon a symbolic brocade sphere. The wood surface presents a darkened, naturally aged finish with subtle remnants of a red or brown stain beneath a low-sheen wax patina. Originally intended as decorative structural accents, screen finials, or traditional table objects, these pieces serve as protective talismans and striking decorative elements for a shelf, desk, or entry console.
