Pair of antique cast bronze or brass oval doorknobs associated with the New York City public school system, dating to the late 19th to early 20th century. Each knob features raised “PUBLIC SCHOOL” lettering surrounded by ornate foliate and scroll decoration. With their richly aged surfaces and distinctive institutional design, these architectural hardware pieces are evocative examples of historic New York City schoolhouse fittings.
