A striking pair of Art Deco bookends designed by the celebrated Austrian sculptor Josef Lorenzl. The set features stylized figures of Pierrot and Pierrette, classic characters from the Commedia dell'arte, reimagined with Lorenzl’s signature elongated limbs and elegant, fluid forms. One figure is depicted seated and reading a book, while the other is posed in a contemplative, reclined position.
The figures are finished in a vibrant combination of gold gilding and polychrome enamel, with intricate red and black detailing on their costumes.
