This pair of Japanese Satsuma earthenware vases is designed with an integrated base formed by reclining Shi-Shi (Guardian Lions). The vases feature a rich gold ground decorated with finely painted Immortals or Lohans, characterized by raised Moriage enamel detailing and gilded halos. The lions are finished in a dark ferruginous wash with white stippling and gilded accents on the manes and tails. Each piece bears a two-character pressed seal mark on the underside.

Details Height 5 in Length 3 in Width 2 in Medium Gilt and Enameled Pottery Condition Minor gilt wear to the rims and high points, light crazing consistent with age, and a small surface chip to the underside of one base.
