Overview

A classic example of Renoir's Impressionist printmaking, this drypoint etching depicts two young girls sitting on the beach at Berneval-sur-Mer. The figures are identified as Julie Manet (daughter of Berthe Morisot and niece of Édouard Manet) and her cousin Jeanne. They are shown in profile, wearing straw bonnets, looking toward distant bathers in the surf.
