Description:

This is an exceptional and authentic antique ship's wheel, a true piece of maritime history originating from a 19th-century Dutch clipper ship. The wheel dates precisely to circa 1875-1880 and features a metal manufacturer's tag that reads: "Electric. Model Makerij & Timmerfabriek C. Dubberlman, Slikkerveer" (note: the maker is typically spelled 'Dubbelman' in historical records).

Key Features:

  • Authentic Provenance: Includes original tags and plaques confirming its age and origin, a crucial detail for collectors.
  • Maker: Crafted by the renowned Dutch firm C. Dubbelman from Slikkerveer, a known manufacturer of quality nautical equipment.
  • Materials: Expertly constructed with elegant brass banding and a central brass hub.
  • Design: Features a classic eight-spoke design with turned handles and a double-ringed outer rim, an unusual and attractive feature.
  • Condition: The wheel exhibits a rich, aged patina and natural wear consistent with decades of use at sea, adding to its authentic character. Minor condition issues commensurate with age are present but do not detract from its impressive display value.
  • Dimensions: D:44in

This is a commanding and historically significant artifact, perfect for a high-end coastal home, a museum display, or a serious collector of nautical memorabilia.

Condition Report
Overall good decorative condition. Surface wear, finish variations, and patina consistent with age and intended nautical style. Minor scuffs and wear present. No major structural damage observed.
