This exceptional antique Middle Eastern nargile is a significant survivor of late 19th-century ceramic art. Measuring 11 inches high, this piece comes with an impeccable lineage, having been preserved within a single family for three generations.
The ceramic base is hand-painted in a sophisticated Late Ottoman/Iznik revival style. The palette consists of vibrant cobalt blues, iron red, and turquoise, featuring "Quatre Fleurs" motifs (tulips and carnations) which were highly symbolic in 19th-century Ottoman culture. Unlike modern reproductions, the base shows a delicate all-over surface crazing and a depth of glaze consistent with 1800s-era firing techniques.
