Description
This is an original color etching and aquatint on vellum paper titled La foule (The Crowd) by the renowned Danish modernist artist Robert Jacobsen (1912–1993). The work features his signature abstract, geometric style with dynamic black, white, gray, blue, and orange shapes.
The artwork was created in 1962 for the prestigious illustrated book portfolio Paroles Peintes I (Painted Words I), published in Paris by Éditions O. Lazar-Vernet. This limited edition album paired original etchings from fourteen different celebrated artists, including Marc Chagall, Georges Braque, and Max Ernst, with unpublished poems or prose from various authors. The text on the accompanying page in the image refers to the poet Jean Laude, whose work was paired with Jacobsen's art in the portfolio.
