This exceptional 10-inch cabinet plate originates from the Imperial Porcelain Factory in St. Petersburg during the reign of Tsar Alexander II. A hallmark of the "Military Service" series, the plate features a finely detailed, hand-painted polychrome scene depicting a classical or allegorical military encounter involving a Roman-style soldier, a celestial figure, and putti, set against a lush landscape with a river deity in the foreground. The rim is heavily gilded and decorated with a continuous etched neoclassical geometric border. The reverse bears the green underglaze cypher of Alexander II (AII) dated 1878, along with several prestigious auction provenance tags, including labels from Sotheby's and Jackson's.
