Description

This evocative lithograph showcases the signature fluid line-work and whimsical charm of Marcel Vertès. The piece depicts a ballerina in repose, viewed from behind in a three-quarter profile. Her delicate features are framed by a dark hair ornament, while her tutu is rendered with expressive, feathered charcoal-like strokes that suggest soft movement and texture.

The work is printed on aged, cream-toned paper that bears the character of its history, including minor edge wear and foxing that adds to its vintage aesthetic. The piece is hand-numbered 120/200 in the lower-left corner and features the artist’s signature, Vertès, in the lower-right margin. Known for his contributions to fashion illustration and his Oscar-winning production design on the 1952 film Moulin Rouge, this work reflects Vertès’ lifelong fascination with the glamour and intimacy of Parisian life.
