Description
This is a truly impressive, large-scale piece of authentic Murano art glass from the renowned Vetreria Colombo. Standing an imposing 20 inches tall, this mid-century modern sculpture depicts a leaping fish poised atop a crystalline, hand-pulled wave. The sheer scale and weight of this piece make it a premier example of 20th-century Italian glasswork.
The sculpture utilizes the classic sommerso (submerged) technique, featuring a core of deep emerald and smoky charcoal encased in thick, high-clarity translucent glass. The fish's body is further enhanced with bullicante—masterfully controlled internal air bubbles—to create a shimmering, light-catching texture reminiscent of scales. The heavy, fluted base is hand-shaped to mimic a crashing wave and bears the hand-etched signature "Colombo" on the underside.
