Amelia Pelaez (Cuban, 1896-1968) was a pioneering modernist painter and ceramicist celebrated for her vibrant synthesis of Cuban avant-garde aesthetics, stained-glass architectural motifs, and rich tropical iconography. Heavily influenced by the bright colors and ornamental ironwork of Havana, her works feature bold black contours framing luminous fields of red, green, and gold. This framed mixed media composition presents two stylized fish encircled by geometric patterns and decorative borders, signed Apelaez and dated 43 at the lower right.

Specifications:

  • Dimensions: 23 x 20 in.

  • Condition: Framed presentation in vintage condition.

  • Markings: Signed Apelaez and dated 43 at lower right.
