Vintage 7-inch film reel in original metal container. Features footage of the Launch of Saturn V, the First Moon Walk, and "Surveillers". A piece of space exploration history.

Ginny Lloyd is an American multimedia artist known for her work in photography, mail art, performance, and conceptual art. Emerging in the 1970s, she became an influential figure in the international mail art movement and has collaborated with well-known avant-garde artists and networks worldwide. Lloyd’s work often blends experimental photography, collage, and communication-based art practices.

She has exhibited internationally, published artist books, and contributed to significant mail art archives. Lloyd also founded the Ginny Lloyd Archive to preserve and promote work related to alternative art movements. Her creative output reflects a commitment to accessibility, participatory art, and the exploration of global artistic exchange.

This rare experimental film reel archive consists of a metal motion picture spool containing a labeled reel of film attributed to Breanna Burgos. Handwritten annotations on the reel reference a sequence of conceptual works or segments titled “Launch of Saturn V,” “First Moon Walk,” and “Surveillance,” suggesting a thematic focus on space exploration, Cold War–era imagery, and observational power structures.

The reel appears to function as an artist’s working or reference archive rather than a commercially released film, aligning with late-20th-century conceptual, experimental, and performance-based film practices. The handwritten labeling and utilitarian metal spool reinforce its archival and process-oriented nature, characteristic of artist-driven film documentation and non-narrative cinema.

Such artist-labeled reels are increasingly scarce, as many were produced in limited quantities and intended for private study, screening, or institutional presentation rather than mass distribution. This piece offers strong appeal to collectors of experimental film, conceptual media art, and archival materials related to space-age visual culture.

Film reel and metal spool are offered together as a single lot. Contents have not been viewed or tested.
