Vintage Silver Gelatin Reference Photograph of Marilyn Monroe, Clark Gable, and Montgomery Clift on the Set of The Misfits (1961).

Description

An exceptional, rare vintage black-and-white double-weight production reference photograph capturing Hollywood legends Marilyn Monroe, Clark Gable, and Montgomery Clift during a candid off-camera moment on location for director John Huston's landmark contemporary Western, The Misfits (1961).

Shot on location in the grueling, sweltering expanse of the Nevada desert in 1960, this striking image captures the three iconic leads resting on an out-of-place upholstered sofa placed directly into the desert dust. The photograph serves as a poignant historical artifact from one of the most famously troubled yet revered productions in cinema history. Written by Monroe's then-husband, playwright Arthur Miller, The Misfits holds a permanent place in Hollywood lore as the final completed feature film for both Clark Gable and Marilyn Monroe, both of whom tragically passed away shortly after production concluded.

The image highlights the stark contrast between the glamorous Hollywood royalty and the harsh, melancholic reality of the film's production environment, showcasing the raw, vulnerable charm that defines the film's enduring legacy.
