An extensive, historically significant World War II era United States military officer's scrapbook and personal photo album. Housed in a large, heavy-duty black post-bound ledger book embossed with "ADVERTISING WELT," this highly detailed archival collection documents the service, travels, and official correspondences of a mid-century American military officer.
The album features a wealth of original content, including typed official military letters, commendations, and correspondence safely preserved under protective overlays. A standout inclusion is an official White House letter carrying General Dwight D. Eisenhower's printed signature, alongside a vintage black-and-white press photograph of Eisenhower interacting with civilian and military personnel.
The scrapbook is richly filled with numerous candid and formal silver gelatin photographs mounted with traditional black photo corners. The images capture servicemen in uniform, field operations, military camps, European cities and architecture (including aerial views and street scenes of Paris), and personal moments of camaraderie during deployment. Many pages feature handwritten ink captions identifying dates, locations, and names, offering an exceptional first-hand historical record of the European Theater of Operations. The album displays expected age-appropriate wear, with some brittle edges and toning to the paper pages, retaining its authentic archival integrity.
