This original oil painting by renowned Florida artist Albert Ernest "Bean" Backus features a vibrant, large-scale yellow hibiscus in full bloom. Executed on a rigid support, the work demonstrates Backus’s characteristic use of the palette knife to create thick, impasto textures, particularly visible in the petals and the surrounding light-colored border. The central flower is rendered in rich, warm yellows and golds, with a prominent stamen extending toward the upper right. The background consists of soft, cool blue and grey tones that contrast with the deep green, shadowed foliage at the base. The work is signed "A.E. Backus" in the lower right corner and is housed in a gold-toned frame with a textured liner. This was a commissioned piece by the artist.
