An authentic antique East African hand-carved wooden neckrest, likely originating from the Ethiopian (Gurage or Somali) or Dinka peoples. Carved from a single piece of hardwood, it features a deeply contoured, crescent-shaped top platform designed to cradle the neck and preserve elaborate hairstyles during sleep. The curved headrest is supported by a slender central column terminating in a heavy, domed circular base. It retains its original, weathered leather carrying strap fragments looped through the central pillar, and exhibits an excellent smooth, honey-brown aged patina from generations of traditional tribal use.
