This elegant 19th-century French centerpiece features a vibrant cobalt blue glass body encased in an ornate silver-plated mount. The decorative metalwork is executed in a lush Neo-Renaissance or Rococo Revival style, displaying deep repoussé and chased details of scrolling acanthus leaves, floral garlands, and grape clusters. The domed lid is surmounted by a leafy finial, while the glass is held within a four-part cage connected to a circular, flared pedestal base that mirrors the botanical motifs found throughout the piece.
The underside of the base bears the stamped maker's mark "JB" above the numerical sequence "2221," identifying the piece as the work of the noted French silversmith and decorator Jean-Baptiste C. Desvignes. This piece represents the high-quality ornamental glassware popular in mid-19th century Europe, combining rich color with intricate metallic craftsmanship.
