A finely carved African sculpture. The carver has utilized the natural curvature to produce an elegant vertical composition that rises to a sharp tapered point.
The portrait features traditional stylized African facial characteristics, braided or coiffed hair, and a defined neckline, all executed with precise hand-tool carving. The polished surfaces reveal subtle age lines, organic coloration, and natural grain typical of older artworks.
Sculptures of this form were commonly produced in Central and West Africa throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, often created as prestige objects, decorative carvings, or representations of ancestral lineage.
