Description

This evocative oil on canvas depicts a Native American subject in a moment of quiet intensity. The figure is draped in a thick, fur-lined hide or blanket, rendered in warm ochre and tan tones that contrast beautifully against the ethereal, swirling blue and gray background.

The composition is rich with symbolic details, including a medicine staff adorned with blue ribbons and feathers, and a decorated shield in the foreground featuring traditional pictographs and hanging plumage. The artist’s brushwork is bold and textured, particularly in the rendering of the subject’s weathered features and the soft edges of the surrounding sky, suggesting a mid-to-late 20th-century provenance.

The painting is housed in a substantial and highly decorative vintage gold-finished wood frame with elaborate floral and foliate scrollwork. The back of the piece shows a clean canvas on a wooden stretcher, equipped with a heavy-duty hanging wire, ready for immediate display.
