This impressive Renaissance Revival armchair features a robustly carved walnut frame with a prominent shell-and-scroll crest. The rectangular back and seat are upholstered in a light-colored fabric with a subtle diamond-quilted pattern, finished with brass nailhead trim. The open arms are heavily carved with scrolling terminals and supported by ornate brackets. Below the seat rail, which features a central circular medallion, the chair is supported by turned and block legs in the front, terminating in original brass casters. The overall design exhibits the eclectic and historicist influence characteristic of the late 19th-century American furniture movement.
