This is a three-paneled folding traveling icon, known as a triptych, featuring the Deesis (intercession) theme. The central panel depicts Christ Pantocrator, flanked by the Virgin Mary on the left and John the Baptist on the right, both shown in traditional poses of prayer and supplication. The piece is constructed from cast brass with multi-colored champlevé enamel accents in blue, green, and white, creating a floral vine motif in the background.
The exterior of the closed triptych features a traditional Russian Orthodox cross (the Suppedaneum cross) set within a circular medallion. The cross is depicted atop Golgotha, with stylized architectural elements representing the city of Jerusalem in the background. The remaining surface is decorated with an etched or cast floral scrollwork.
